History: The history of Ravus Nox Fleuret
Personality:
Who Ravus Nox Fleuret has become, can be traced along to where he began. As a child, he was a warm and caring individual. He was devoted to his little sister Luna, as well as to his mother, the Queen. He showed great compassion to the people around him - his subjects, his people, and even to young Noctis, who had come to their home of Tenebrae to have a serious injury healed. Yet all that became buried the day that the Niflheim invaded Tenbrae, killed Ravus and Luna’s mother as she stood to protect her eldest son, a sacrifice that was to scar him for the rest of his life.
His compassion took a major hit as he knelt by his mother’s body, ringed in flame, turning and begging Regis to help them. Regis instead turned away to drag Lunafreya and Noctis to safety. This was to color Ravus’s opinion of the royal house of Lucis for most of the rest of his life, turning the bright and happy boy to a bitter and resentful young man. From this point on, he only sought two things - to protect his sister from the prophecy, and to take down the family that had let his die. Those two goals ended up being the cornerstones of his personality - for while he was cold and haughty to all of his enemies (including the Emperor, although he was the commander of the Emperor’s army) -- he was warm and supportive of his sister. He protects her, even when she does not want to be be protected, from all that he sees will harm her. In his mind, that was Noctis and the entire Lucis’s royal line.
Ironically enough, his change of heart began when he lost his arm to putting on the Ring of the Lucii. While first consumed with the deepest bitterness that despite his bloodline and his abilities that he was not the True King, a fact that he threw in the face of Noctis. However, watching his sister slowly killing herself to bring forth the Astrals, and to keep alive long enough to give Noctis the Ring, he came to a moment of truth. He realized that if Lunafreya was determined enough to kill herself for Noctis, then he must be the True King. She had begged him to take the Ring to Noctis. Instead, in accepting her destiny, and Noctis’s, along with his own, he told her to hold on, to be as strong as he knew she was. He is even willing to lie to Ardyn that he had spoken to her, moving to protect her against the people he was still the commander of.
With the death of Lunafreya at the hands of Ardyn, and Nilfeim turning on him, blaming him for Leviathan, he stole Noctis’s father’s glaive, to return to ‘his king’. His heart was restored to him through the bravery and sacrifice of his sister. He defied the Emperor to his face, and easily dispatched the Emperor’s guards. Facing down what remained of the Emperor, Ravus realized that no matter how far he had fallen away from the loving boy he once was - there was enough of him left to make sure that his sister’s sacrifice would not be in vain. He put out a message to Noctis to come and retrieve the Glaive.
Sadly at that moment, he was killed by the murderous hobo Ardyn, with the mocking words to Ravus being denied the crown of the True King, “Rejection hurts, doesn’t it?” Yet while he died, his duty had been fulfilled. The sword was returned to Noctis, and Ravus knew in his dying moments that despite all the painful truths that Ardyn had spewed, he had remained true to himself, and to Lunafreya. He had become the royal king and protector his mother had wanted him to be.
It was this strength, as he was resurrected against his will by Ardyn, that implored Noctis and the others to execute him. To save what remained of his humanity, his soul, from becoming fully corrupted as a demon. In the end, Gladio's words as Ravus’s body faded away were the truest of him - it was a sad end, for Ravus had simply been a man of hopes, and dreams, and did not deserve such an ending. He could have been much more, if he had been able to let go of his hatred and bitterness of his youth. He came to the light too late, but as he would say to anyone who would have asked, he never would have understood how important it was without his suffering and blindness. Sometimes you need a slap in the face, to wake you up to the world around you, and Ravus had that slap. He may have died, but he did not die in vain.
Abilities: Ravus is an expert swordsman, but his preferred blade is a saber. He also had an arm that was replaced by something biotic, that gave him super-powered strength. He’s got military experience along with tactics - being the commander of the Nilfeim armed forces.
